Pulsed Water Mists for Suppression of Strawberry Powdery Mildew

چکیده
Powdery mildew (Podosphaera aphanis) is a destructive and widespread disease of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa), especially when susceptible cultivars are grown in high plastic tunnels or glasshouses. Many powdery mildews thrive humid environments but free water films on plant surfaces can inhibit conidial germination some species. We hypothesized that P. aphanis might be directly suppressed by rain through the action meteoric water. In repeated experiments, hydrophobic conidia collected surface droplets, resulting their removal droplets rolled over leaf fell to ground. Meteoric also damaged conidiophores. Brief midday mists applied pulses lasting 1 min each four times per day were as effective multiple fungicide treatments suppressing mildew. Rapid drying pulsed resulted suppression without consequent increases fungal pathogens benefit from films. The timing duration sprinkling has been refined point where it provide commercially relevant degree high-tunnel production system.

Labor-saving Preservation of Powdery Mildew of Strawberry by Sterilized Seedling Culture
Various preservation methods at low temperature have been reported for several powdery mildew fungi, but the conidia of Podosphaera aphanis causing powdery mildew of strawberry could not be preserved either at low temperature or by freeze-drying and liquid-drying of conidial suspensions or diseased leaf discs. Here, we developed a new technique for a labor-saving preservation of the conidia of ...

متن کاملInitiation, development, and survival of cleistothecia of Podosphaera aphanis and their role in the epidemiology of strawberry powdery mildew.
A collection of four clonal isolates of Podosphaera aphanis was heterothallic and was composed of two mutually exclusive mating types. Cleistothecial initials approximately 20 to 30 microm in diameter were observed within 7 to 14 days after pairing of compatible isolates and developed into morphologically mature ascocarps within 4 weeks after initiation on both potted plants maintained in isola...
متن کاملEffects of Powdery Mildew and Water Stress on CO(2) Exchange in Uninfected Leaves of Barley.
Net photosynthesis is stimulated in third seedling leaves of barley plants whose lower two leaves are heavily infected by Erysiphe graminis f.sp. hordei Marchal. Stimulation is greater in water-stressed than in well-watered plants. In stressed, but not in well-watered plants, stimulation is associated with the maintenance of high leaf water potential and high leaf conductance. A small part of t...
